A simple and tasty snack that the family will love.
A traditional food found in almost any deli counter in Scotland, can’t be found anywhere here in Kentucky. But that’s alright, no big deal! It’s so simple and quick to make, and tastes so much better home-cooked anyway.
What you need:
6 hard-boiled eggs, shells removed
1 lb pork sausage meat (I use the prepackaged one with sage added)
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
Salt and pepper to season
1 tablespoon of all-purpose flour
Breadcrumbs (I use about ½ box Japanese style breadcrumbs, it’s the closest I can find to the UK equivalent).
1 egg (beaten)
Now let’s get all sticky:
Put on the deep fryer, med-high temperature setting is fine.
Mix the sausage meat, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, flour together in a large bowl. Just stick your hands in there and mix it through. (Or you could use a wooden spoon to mix – it just takes a little more time).
Mold the sausage meat mixture around each of the hard-boiled eggs.
One at a time, dip the balls into the beaten egg, then into the breadcrumbs.
Deep fry for about 5-8 minutes, Scotch eggs are ready when the breadcrumbs are golden brown in color.
Enjoy as an accompaniment to a salad, or eat on their own as a tasty snack.
